WHY ACCREDITATION MATTERS

Who is AAHA?

Perhaps you’ve heard of AAHA. Maybe you’re familiar with the red-and-white logo you’ve seen at your pet’s veterinary hospital. Perhaps you’ve read a pet health article online that mentioned AAHA. Maybe you know that AAHA helps veterinary practices provide quality care for pets. But how much do you really know about AAHA? Who is AAHA?

We are standard setters

AAHA sets the standard of excellence in veterinary medicine. The AAHA Standards of Accreditation are composed of 940 standards and 18 categories covering all areas of veterinary practice—from anesthesia and pain management to recordkeeping and client communication. AAHA’s practice consultants visit veterinary hospitals striving to earn or maintain their AAHA accreditation and evaluate them based on the AAHA Standards of Accreditation.

We are influencers

With nearly 4,000 accredited veterinary practices and 43,000 veterinary professionals, AAHA is a powerful influencer of the veterinary profession. Our members are the cream of the crop—those who strive to be the best of the best and deliver the highest possible quality of veterinary care. AAHA also influences veterinary medicine by producing peer-reviewed guidelines for veterinary care that are used by more than 87% of AAHA members. Our guidelines cover topics ranging from dentistry to vaccinations to end-of-life care.

We are creators

The content AAHA creates—whether it’s published in Trends magazine, in the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association, in our blogs and e-newsletters, or in one of the many books published by AAHA Press—is seen by thousands of veterinary professionals and pet owners every month. Our beautiful, award-winning,  industry-leading content helps veterinary healthcare teams provide the highest quality care for pets.

We are educators

Among the veterinary profession, AAHA is known for our world-class practice management education. In recent years, much of our focus has been on improving the wellbeing of veterinary professionals and the workplace culture in veterinary practices. By decreasing burnout and compassion fatigue and improving work-life balance and overall wellbeing, everyone wins, including pets.

We are at the heart of better care for pets and their people

Since AAHA's founding in 1933, everything we’ve done has been with one goal in mind: to help veterinary professionals provide exceptional care for companion animals. We want your veterinarian to be happy, healthy, and on top of the latest innovations in veterinary medicine. And we want your pet to be happy and healthy so you can enjoy a long, wonderful life together.

Perhaps you’ve heard of AAHA. Now you really know who we are.
